If you’re an advertiser or publisher, then you are very concerned about ad fraud. Well, there is a new program around that will allow you to get certified in ad fraud, so that you can help to prevent your company from being the victim of such fraud. The program has been created by the Trustworthy Accountability Group and users can only get the seal that they have completed the anti-fraud certification, which has been in development for the past 18 months. In order to get this certificate, you will have to be a reputable advertiser or publisher because they want to make the program slightly exclusive to ensure that it is of high caliber, and basically to make sure that they don’t led fraudsters themselves into the program.
This is harder than it sounds because those who commit fraud are often skilled at making their sites, companies and traffic seem completely legitimate. Because of this, people who wish to join the program must submit to a complete background check and work with an officer of the agency to make sure that their sites are completely compliant with the guidelines of the certificate. They also have to agree to remove any non human traffic that is found, and promise to take action if questionable traffic is found on their sites. Publishers must go through a similar process to get the certificate.
TAG itself was created with the help of a few agencies including the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Association of National Advertisers and the Interactive Advertising Bureau. Mike Zaneis, President and CEO of TAG later said “We’re looking to create a robust system where lots of companies are living up to the standard, regardless of their size. That’s how we’ll keep putting pressure on fraudsters to make it harder and harder for them to sneak through.”
