The newest editions of the iPhone are…kind of big. The regular iPhone 6 is .7 inches longer than iPhone 5 at 4.7 inches. iPhone 6L is a whopping 5.5 inches, making it unwieldy for some users. Some people longingly remember the days of iPhones 3 & 4, which were slightly shorter than the iPhone 5, around 4 inches. There is word that a new, smaller iPhone could be on the way to consumers. Larger screen phones do serve an important purpose, since people increasingly enjoy watching videos on their mobile devices and it is clearly easier to see things on a larger screen. But many people also have tablets for this purpose, and wish to have a smaller device that they can just use for things like calling, texting, social media and navigation.
The benefits of a smaller device are pretty clear. It can fit in your pocket more easily, so you don’t always have to be carrying a bag, or broadcasting your expensive device by having it sticking out of your pocket. Luckily, for those who like smaller screen devices, mobile websites are incredibly adaptive these days, and can fit themselves to many different screen sizes if they are responsive, making browsing easy for anyone who has a small or large device. Many industry experts feel that the user experience is the same anyways, when using a mobile operating system, whether you have a small screen or a large screen.
There’s no perfect phone size that will work for every single person, but the smaller phone that is expected to be announced on Monday by Apple will hopefully round out their collection of large devices and give consumers enough variety to choose from to be happy with their smartphone choices.
