Pinterest used to be every affiliates best friend. You could easily post pictures of products with affiliate links so people could browse and get directly connected to the product they want to buy. However, that all changed in 2015 when Pinterest banned affiliate links, because they felt that too many people who were using affiliate links were spamming. So, the site decided to remove them all together. However, now Pinterest can become the affiliate wonderland it once was, because they are adding affiliate links back!
The decision comes after the image based social network decided to add better spam controls to the site, which will make it easier for them to tell which affiliates are actually spamming and which ones are legitimate affiliate links. It seems that Pinterest hopes that this rebirth will bring more users to the site and create more action. They want to create an environment where affiliates can actually make money – because that helps them to grow their site, as well as yours! With their new and improved spam detection system, Pinterest hopes to have affiliates who will add even more high quality and organic content to the site to keep it interesting for regular users.
In the past, affiliate have had a pretty good return on investment from Pinterest, so it would make sense that the same thing would happen in this new iteration of affiliate links on the site. This is big news to affiliates who are always looking for new places to advertise organically (ie, for free). Pinterest is very convenient for affiliates and for some, it was a big blow when they took down affiliate links. Have you used Pinterest in the past to bolster your affiliate marketing? If not, do you plan to try it now that Pinterest is allowing affiliate links again?
