Kotaku is a popular gaming blog, and is part of the Gawker Media family of sites. They are one of the only sites out there that claims to perform honest, unbiased gaming reviews and news. Some companies don’t like their alleged honesty, and have essentially blacklisted the blog for their honest journalism tactics. The two main companies who have supposedly been ignoring Kotaku, a blog read by millions of gaming enthusiasts, are Bethesda, the creators of the Fallout series, and Ubisoft, creators of Assassin’s Creed and more.
It all allegedly started when Kotaku posted some unflattering information about Bethesda in 2013, as well as leaked information that had been sent to them by an inside source. The same is true for Ubisoft, who has twice been mad at the blog for leaking unreleased photos or information about games that had not been announced yet. Sure, it sucks when your products get leaked, but, why blacklist a huge gaming publication instead of speeding up production or moving up your marketing campaign? Kotaku has been kicked out of the special perks that most gaming publications get such as pre-releases of games to review and even press releases about new games and updates.
A leak, while sometimes unwanted and unsavory, is still news and buzz. Why not turn it around to make things positive for your company and keep people talking about your products?
