There are two major pitfalls that companies can go through. One of them is having so many meetings to plan projects that there is no time for the meetings to get done. The other is having so much data that you just spend all of your time analyzing this data and not really getting to do anything with it! Marketing Land has some tips for you on how to avoid spending all of your time analyzing data and leaving yourself some room to actually do something with it!
One suggestion is to make sure that your data set can have filters so that you can easily set it to just look at the information you really need to see. Overwhelming spreadsheets are so yesterday, and more modern systems that help you deal with viewing data are what’s in style. As you do this, make sure that the filtering options make sense. Remember – correlation does not equal causation!
Some industry analysts recommend only working on data that is linked to revenue, because in most cases, that is what you want to know about – how things affect your revenue. Right? Why focus on unrelated trends?
Other analysts believe that you can save time by asking members of your team for their own insights, instead of only looking at the data. This is especially great for time sensitive reports or data needs.
All of these tips point to the fact that you need to be using a powerful tool which helps you to visualize data that someone doesn’t need much special treatment to use. Don’t waste your time focusing on data that doesn’t matter, or trying to make heads or tails out of complex data management systems or spreadsheets when it could be very easy to draw your own conclusions with the help of your team, and by focusing on the data that really matters.
