Google recently announced it is creating a new messaging app that works with artificial intelligence, presumably to compete with Facebook Messenger. The messaging app seeks to provide users answers to queries via what you might call chat bots. You could also message friends with the app. Google may also allow third party developers to create their own chat bots. While there is no release date or name yet, according to the Wall Street Journal, they have been working on it for at least a year, and even unsuccessfully tried to acquire a service which creates Chat Bots. It’s not clear yet whether this new messaging platform would connect with Google Hangouts or be a whole new service.
However, the competition is already winding up as Facebook has already started working on a chat assistant for their Messenger called M. This is a service that would answer queries through the Messenger app. Right now it does so on a test basis with the help of human support and software combined, but it is just in an experimental phase. The service can help you buy things online, help you figure out where to go for dinner and even book travel, through the Messenger app. Perhaps Facebook’s latest combination with Uber is a precursor of the age of chatbot assistants.
The possibilities for more digital marketing on social media are endless, and it will be interesting to see how those possibilities develop with this technology in the future.
