Google Maps announced last week that they would be having offline navigation, making local marketing even more important. Users can download their local area, and then access that when they are offline in remote areas of just a place with bad reception. If you want to download other areas, just go to the menu option “offline areas” and click the plus sign. The offline navigation only has driving directions, not transit or biking, so keep that in mind.
In addition, this Maps update may knock some competitors down as they are adding local gas prices, which is one factor that causes some people to use other mapping and navigation apps. If you’ve got a retail business, this next new feature should catch your eye. The iOS app or Safari/Chrome allows you to not only see a stores open hours, but to see their busy times with a helpful graph.
Google Maps has already solidified itself as one of the top mapping apps according to many lists, and these new additions will probably only serve to further that standing and make local advertising with Google and on Google maps even more important for businesses.
