Facebook is becoming an all important service that is becoming integrated to many parts of every day life. There has been some buzz in the news that your Facebook friends might be able to affect your credit scores. Now, Nielsen, the company that measures information and tastes worldwide is going to be including Facebook likes and chatter to gauge how popular a TV show is. They have already been including Twitter in their ratings since 2013. Nielsen uses Twitter to track how many tweets there are about a particular show, and how many people see each tweet. The Twitter and Facebook ratings will both be used in conjunction primarily to track live TV events and popular TV shows.
What will be included? Basically just things you share publicly to your friends and/or followers. What Nielsen won’t get to see is who you were talking about Game of Thrones or the Superbowl with, since the data will just be given to Nielsen in an aggregate format. In the future, analysts predict that Instagram will also be included in Nielsen’s Social Content Ratings.
The purpose of this new type of rating is so that companies can give consumers better interactive experiences through ads and even as part of the programming.
