If your business has been around for a long while, it can be easy to become blind to the technological and visual relics of the age when you first started your business. However, you can take a cue from Adobe about how to bring your business into the modern age.
Adobe started as a company who sold graphic design software, in boxes to a company with cloud services, as soon as the trend presented itself, and made the change seemingly seamlessly. The change started in 2013, when more and more people started to use the cloud. The company, which had started selling boxed software in 1986, announced in May of 2013 that they were discontinuing their boxed software set known as Creative Suite and changing their business model to something called the Creative Cloud. Now instead of buying an expensive boxed set of software, you can access Photoshop for as little as $10/month.
Most companies would really be afraid to completely change everything about the way they do business, but like Apple, Adobe was founded by visionaries who know that sometimes that is what needs to be done, and they are reaping in the dough because of it. They earned 22% this quarter over the same quarter last year, and the recurring subscriptions revenue now accounts for 74% of the company’s revenue. That is a big deal!
So when you are thinking about how to bring your business into the future, look at Adobe as an example of how it can be done gracefully.
