You know that little “card” that comes up on the right side of Google when you search for a big company? Google has finally updated their services so that brands can actually maintain their own cards, instead of just having it aggregate whatever data is available from the Google Knowledge Graph. This is great because it will allow companies to show the actual, correct information. In the past, these cards have sometimes had old or incorrect information because, believe it or not, not everything you read on the web is true!
In addition, before, it would take a while for a company’s card to update when they did something as simple as change their corporate phone number, or get a new CEO, thus displaying false information for a while until the web catches up to real life.
Making changes to your card is easy. First you must become an official representative of the company, which basically means that you have to have access to the Google Analytics account for that site, and that you have “Web & App Activity” turned on. Now that you’re an owner, you will see an icon which reads “Is this info up to date?” when looking at your card. Then you’ll be able to suggest changes, and of course, Google will review the changes for accuracy. Once you submit your changes you’ll receive an e-mail from Google before they review it, so you’ll know changes are on the way.
