Many people think that direct messaging is not really applicable for marketing, however Mercedes-Benz is proving that is just not true. They have started a campaign in which they message their followers on Facebook and Instagram that is something akin to a secret santa. The campaign is all about giving. People who receive a message can give a family member or friend a gift, courtesy of Mercedes. Some of the possible gifts are pretty sweet and include a leather watch, bluetooth speakers, and Mercedes-Benz branded items.
It’s been an effort that has gotten the brand more followers, which they hope will stick around once the gift giving season is over. Mercedes is doing the whole campaign above board too. They will not be messaging people who don’t follow the brand already, and aren’t collecting information for purposes other than sending gifts. Mercedes is a brand that tries to interact on social media with their fans. They often post pictures fans send them of their own vehicles, creating loyal customers or at least more loyal fans of the brand.
