Google has been talking about their accelerated mobile pages for a while and they are finally live. The benefit of these mobile pages is that they decrease the amount of elements needed to download, making the pages work must faster over mobile networks. Soon, AMP compliant sites will have priority in search results on Google, especially on mobile searches. That means that publishers and website owners have to get in on the game to make their pages compliant with this new protocol.
However, Richard Gingras, Senior Director of News and Social Products at Google wants you to know that it’s not just going to be that AMP results will automatically show up before other results, they have to follow the same SEO guidelines that Google likes to see. “AMP doesn’t mean adopt AMP and get a massive boost in search ranking. That is not the case. All of the other signals need to be satisfied as well. But without question speed matters. If we had two articles that from a signaling perspective scored the same in all other characteristics but for speed, then yes we will give an emphasis to the one with speed because that is what users find compelling,” he clarified.
