Seniors are a population who have traditionally been forgotten when it comes to sex and dating. It only makes sense, since traditionally, seniors seem to lose interest in these things as they get older and older. However, now with new technology it has become easier than ever for them to find love again after a divorce or death of a loved one.
According to studies from the Pew Research Center, those aged 55-64 using online dating has doubled since 2013. In 2013, this figure was 6% and now it is 12%. These numbers go along with other surveys which show that in the same period of time, those over 65 using social media has more than tripled. It was previously 11% but more recently it was 35%. While many older adults cited worries about scams as a reason to stay away from online dating, it seems more people feel comfortable joining the modern world because now, 28% of people aged 55-64 know a couple who met via online dating. There is still not a huge number of older people using online dating, but steady growth means that this could be an important market for online dating affiliates and providers to pay attention to.
Older adults are an ideal market, according to industry experts, because while they take longer to adopt new technology, once they pick one, they are much more loyal than younger people, probably because the barrier of learning a whole new technology is too high. How will you capitalize on this market?
